The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre & School of Theatre Arts announces that Matthew L. Vicari has been elected to serve a two-year term as Chair of the Board of Directors. Mr. Vicari, an attorney with Miller Johnson, follows his firm’s tradition of involvement with the Civic Theatre for many years, including previously serving as Vice Chair of the Board and chair of the Education Committee.

The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre governance is a volunteer Board of Directors that represent businesses, community volunteers, and organizations dedicated to supporting a community with a rich arts and commitment to entertaining, educating, and engaging our community through the art of theatre.

Mr. Vicari has been practicing law since 1990 and earned his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Detroit School of Law. He is the chair of Miller Johnson’s Criminal Law and Fraud and Embezzlement Recovery practice groups and a former chair of the firm’s Litigation Section. He is a trial lawyer focused on representing corporations, executives, medical and other professionals, and individuals in commercial and other disputes, and criminal matters involving a wide range of corporate, government and individual crimes.

Mr. Vicari was President of the Grand Rapids Bar Association for the 2008-2009 term and previously served as a GRBA trustee.  He is a past president of the Gerald R. Ford Chapter of the American Inns of Court, and past President of the Catholic Lawyers Association of Western Michigan. Mr. Vicari has also been a faculty member with the Hillman Advocacy Program for the U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan.
