Beginning Tap
FOR ADULTS

Fall Term: Tuesdays October 7 – November 11

For dancers with little or no tap experience. Students learn tap basics such as a brush, ball change, flap, and shuffle! Tap shoes recommended but not required.
Intermediate Tap
FOR ADULTS

Fall Term: Tuesdays October 7 – November 11

Spring Term: Saturdays April 11 – May 16
11:30AM – 12:30PM
For dancers with at least 2 years tap experience. Students will work on steps such as a Maxi Ford, Paddle Turn, Shim Sham, Time Step, and Turns. Tap shoes required.
Advanced Tap
$100
Six classes
Fall Term: Tuesdays October 7 – November 11

Spring Term: Saturdays April 11 – May 16
12:30 – 1:30PM
For dancers with at least 4-5 years tap experience or instructor approval. Students will work on improvisational tap, trick steps, paradiddle variations, and more! Tap shoes required.

Beginning MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE
FOR ADULTS

For dancers with little to no dance experience. Students learn basic musical theatre dance techniques & steps. A useful starting place for any student interested in Musical Theatre performance. Split sole jazz shoes or ballet slippers recommended.
Intermediate MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE
FOR ADULTS

For dancers with at least 2 years of experience. Students will work on character development through movement as well as more advanced musical theater steps and styles. Split sole jazz shoes, ballet slippers, or character shoes required.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE TECHNIQUE (INTERMEDIATE)
FOR ADULTS

This class is a blend of classical modern technique and contemporary styles. Through fall and recovery, contraction and release, we will discover and uncover new movement pathways and explore our authentic voices. Expect floorwork, center technique and sweeping phrases that move through space.Students should have at least two years of contemporary, modern, ballet, jazz or musical theatre dance technique prior to registration.

JUMP-ROPE FITNESS

Inspired by Legally Blonde`s Wyndham Workout Disk Two Challenge, Whipped Into Shape is a high energy, showtune infused jump rope fitness class for amateur and experienced dancers! Develop your endurance for the stage and hone in on your Legally Blonde auditions in this fun and unique workout. Jump rope provided and included in tuition fee.
JAZZ TECHNIQUE
FOR ADULTS

Spring Term: Saturdays April 11 – May 16

This course is designed to strengthen technique and refine skills for jazz dancers, offering a structured approach similar to a ballet class to enhance precision, control, and artistry. Beginner or intermediate students welcome!
Registration for Adult dance classes will open August 27th at 12:00PM.
Our adult dance class selections at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre are carefully crafted to offer both basic skills for those new to dance and advanced skills for experienced artists looking to hone their craft. Our instructors have worked professionally and on college campuses both in West Michigan and all over the country.
Dance Placement Videos
If you are unsure which level dance class would be appropriate for you, please check out our placement videos created by the wonderful Civic dance faculty. They showcase what students should feel comfortable working on at an intermediate level. Please keep in mind that instructors may ask students to move to an alternate class after the first week depending on the level of students registered during the term.
