FIRST TIME ON THE CIVIC STAGE!
ABOUT THE SHOW: COME FROM AWAY
Grand Rapids Civic Theatre kicks off the Centennial Season with a message of kindness, unity, and resilience: Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family. Book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein.
“…the physiological confirmation that this effervescent musical, enveloped in Canadian good will, is an antidote for what ails the American soul…” – Washington Post
RATED: PG-13 for mature thematic elements surrounding the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including intense emotional scenes, discussions of fear, grief, and loss, along with mild profanity and alcohol consumption
Come From Away is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

DIGITAL PLAYBILL
Once the show has opened, you can CLICK HERE to access the show’s Digital Playbill. Why digital and not printed? This decision had many factors that went into it including the reduction of our paper footprint in an effort to be more climate-conscious as well as budgetary restrictions coming out of the pandemic. Digital Playbills remain archived long-term and can be accessed HERE.
