Join us at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s School of Theatre Arts SUMMER CAMP 2026! This year is jam-packed with theatrical adventures with camps for ages 4 through high school. Whether this is your first Civic Camp or you’re returning for another spectacular summer, our team of directors, musicians, designers and producers can’t wait to see you shine on stage!

Grade levels for camps are the grade your student is currently completing in 2025-26 and not the grade the student is going into after summer.

EARLY EXPLORERS for Ages 4 - Grade K

For students age 4 through students who have COMPLETED Kindergarten by June 2026. Students must be age 4 before the first day of camp.

Join us for a week of summer fun! Our youngest campers are divided into groups by age where they learn a script written JUST for them! Our summer faculty and fantastic teacher assistants guide students as they explore acting, singing, dancing, costumes & props, and prepare for a performance on the Meijer Majestic Stage on their final day of camp!

Friend requests for Early Explorers are limited to ONE FRIEND ONLY and must be mutual (each party requests the other).

Tuition: $125

Session A (AM): Monday August 10 – Friday August 14 | 9:00AM – 11:00AM
Onstage Performance: Friday 10:30AM

Session B (PM): Monday August 10 – Friday August 14 | 1:00PM – 3:00PM

CREATIVE QUEST for Grades 1-2

For students who have completed grades 1 or 2 by June 2026.

Summer days are action-packed as our Creative Quest Campers seek out adventures in the arts! Students are divided into groups by age, and rotate through daily classes in acting, singing, dancing, and tech (props & costumes) – all guided by our experienced theatre faculty and fantastic teacher assistants. After a fun audition on the first day, every camper gets a part to play in a script written specifically for their age group, and performed on the Meijer Majestic stage on the last day of camp!

Friend requests for Creative Quest are limited to ONE FRIEND ONLY and must be mutual (each party requests the other).

DRAMATIC DISCOVERY for Grades 3-5

For students who have completed grades 3 through 5 by June 2026.

Campers will love making discoveries in every aspect of theatre from acting, singing & dancing, to props, costumes, and scenery! Students are divided into groups by age, and audition for a part in a script written just for them – everyone is cast, and everyone gets their own lines although the roles vary in size just like in a real theatre production. Experienced theatre faculty nurture and guide students as they reach dramatic new heights and prepare for a performance on the Meijer Majestic stage on the final day of camp!

Friend requests for Dramatic Discovery are limited to ONE FRIEND ONLY and must be mutual (each party requests the other).

MIDSTAGE for Grades 6-8

For students who have completed grades 6 through 8 by June 2026.

This BRAND NEW camp allows our middle school students the opportunity to participate in EITHER a play or musical as a stepping stone to our One Act camps. Campers will have one rehearsal block with their production team during the day as well as design, build, and pull their own costumes and props. All students will be featured within their own 15-20 minute production on the Meijer Majestic stage on the final day of camp!

CAMP IN CONCERT for Grades 6-12: SHINE LIKE THE SUN: BROADWAY'S GREAT SONGWRITERS

For students who have completed grades 6-12 by June 2026.

Join us for this year’s Camp In Concert – Shine Like the Sun: Broadway’s Great Songwriters! This musical revue features songs written by incredible female composers like Jeanine Tesori, Sara Bareilles, Lucy Moss, and more to be presented on the Meijer Majestic Stage at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. This camp is a perfect fit for students who love to sing and perform and will focus on healthy vocal technique, using the voice and body to create a character, basic movement and musical theatre dance techniques.

Tuition: $275

PRODUCTION TRACK for Grades 7-12

For students who have completed grades 7 through 12 by June 2026.

As a member of Production Track, students will participate in a crew training that will set them up to participate in all Mainstage crews as well as those at their schools and other companies, study and collaborate with professional designers in sets, props, costumes, lighting and sound, and work on both of the One Acts being performed by their peers in July! This camp is a fantastic opportunity for those who have never been behind the scenes and for those who are veteran volunteers in the production world! Please check out the schedule details below carefully prior to registration.

 

Tuition: $200

MANDATORY DATES:

CREW TRAINING: Tuesday, June 23rd from 6-9 pm

LEGALLY BLONDE CREW SHADOWING: Students would pick a few Wednesday or Thursday performance dates during the month of June to shadow at the sound/light board, stage manager, deck crew, fly rail, follow spot, and dressers.

ONE ACT CREW:
Wednesday, July 8th: 9 am-5 pm
Thursday, July 9th: 9 am-5 pm
Friday, July 10th: 9 am-8 pm
Saturday, July 11th: 1-8 pm

OPTIONAL: Students in Production Track will have the opportunity to participate in optional workshops with members of Civic Theatre’s design staff! These will take place throughout the month of June and more details will be provided at a later date. All workshops would be included with tuition and allow students to dive deeper into topics that are most intriguing to them.

ONE-ACT PLAY for Grades 9-12: ALIENATED

For students who have completed grades 9-12 by June 2026.

In one exciting, fast-paced week, students will audition, rehearse, and perform Alienated on the Meijer Majestic Stage! Members of a high school senior class gather at school to solve the mystery of a bright light that appears on this precise day once every six years. Is the shining light the sign of alien life? Is there an alien among them? Everyone has something to hide as we explore stereotypes, friendships, teenage relationships, and more.

Guided by theatre professionals, all students who register are cast in roles of varying sizes and gain experience both onstage and off. This camp is an excellent opportunity for both beginners and veteran performers to experience what it’s like to be part of a fully produced musical at Civic!

This show is appropriate for all audiences.

ONE-ACT MUSICAL for Grades 9-12: Disney's HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL JR.

For students who have completed grades 9-12 by June 2026.

In one action-packed week, students will audition, rehearse, and perform this 60-minute version of Disney Channel’s smash hit High School Musical Jr. on the Meijer Majestic Stage! Guided by theatre professionals, all students who register are cast in roles of varying sizes and gain experience both onstage and off. This camp is an excellent opportunity for both beginners and veteran performers to experience what it’s like to be part of a fully produced musical at Civic!

This show is appropriate for all audiences.

Tuition: $300

    Payment is due at time of registration.

    Friend Requests for Early Explorers, Creative Quest, Dramatic Discovery, and MidStage are limited to ONE FRIEND ONLY and they must be mutual.
    What is a Friend Request? Campers are divided into small groups based on age/DOB – if two students want to be grouped together, they should list one another in the Friend Request field during registration. Summer staff will attempt to match students who request one another together in a group.

    Registration for each camp closes one week before the camp begins.

    REFUND DEADLINE FOR ‘26 SUMMER CAMPS:
        Before May 1st 2026: 50% refund

    FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:

    A limited number of partial scholarships (up to 50% of summer camp tuition) are available. Applications are online HERE. Scholarship applications can be submitted at any time and are subject to space and funding availability.

     

    SUMMER CAMP REFUND POLICY:

    In the event that the Theatre must cancel a camp due to low enrollment, a full refund is issued.

    If a refund is requested prior to May 1st 2026, a 50% refund will be offered. There are NO refunds for summer camp registrations after May 1st, 2026.
