At the end of the 2022 calendar year, we’ll bid a fond farewell to Robert A. Fowle, Costume Designer. Bob first joined the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre family in 1979.

Executive Director Bruce Tinker reflects upon Bob’s tenure with Civic, sharing the following statement:

“There is no way to communicate how amazing Robert Fowle is. From his comprehensive knowledge of the history of fashion and how to create it for the stage to his award-winning gardens and charming campers, there is elegance and beauty wherever he travels.  Bob’s incredible costumes became a signature of the Civic Experience and often literally took your breath away when the lights came up.  His dedication to the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre since 1979 is truly incalculable and has been a cornerstone of the Theatre’s success.  While it is difficult to imagine creating theatre without Bob, it is a privilege and joy to thank him for an incredible career dedicated to Civic Theatre.  I wish you only the very best, because I know you will share beauty and design naturally wherever you go.  Thank you and congratulations, Bob!”
