QUALIFICATIONS:

Young Artist Studio Mentors should be theatre artists who have worked either professionally or in a collegiate setting. Please note that professional theatre requirements would include 5+ years’ experience in settings outside of a high school. This could be in a regional theater, community theater, or college setting. If you think it would be beneficial for us to see your resume, please email it to jbetkapope@grct.org. Mentor candidates should have experience working with students ages 13-18 as a teacher or coach. We are looking for individuals who will be able to offer constructive feedback, support, guidance, compassion, and connection to young people who are seriously considering theatre as a career.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:

Mentors are required to participate in the following tasks:

  • Attend Auditions for the 24/25 Cohort, take written feedback, and offer input to Civic Administrators into Cohort Selection and Mentor Assignments
  • Attend ALL Mentor Team Meetings AND School of Theatre Arts Faculty Meetings
  • Attend and participate in YAS Student Orientation
  • Attend the Chicago Field Trip
  • Attend ALL Friday Studio Times, offering written feedback to ALL students, and coaching to select students
  • Attend 3 Mentor Meetings with their 1-2 assigned students throughout the year
  • Attend Final Studio Celebration

IMPORTANT DATES »

COMPENSATION:

7 Mentor Admin Meetings 2-3 hours each: $100 each = $700

  • Mentor Orientation
  • Fall/Winter/Spring Mentor Team Meeting
  • Fall/Winter School of Theatre Arts Meeting
  • Mentor Year End Wrap Meeting

Auditions: 7 Hours: $300 + food/refreshment provided

Student Orientation: 2-3 hours: $100

3 Mentor Meetings with students: $50/student x 3 = $150/student

  • Meeting Prep
  • 50 minute meeting
  • Meeting Follow Up

9 Studio Time 3 hours each: $150 x 9 = $1350

  • Student Feedback/Notes
  • Coaching
  • Social Time

Final Studio Celebration 2-3 hours: $50

  • Mainly Social Time w/refreshments provided

Chicago Field Trip: 10-15 hours: $250

  • Transportation Provided
  • Tickets to Shows Provided
  • Lunch Provided
  • Observation of Classes/Activities

Social Time like Masterclasses, Studio Game Nights, etc are not required, and therefore they are not compensated (although there is usually food and always fun!). Tickets to Broadway GR productions and other Studio outings have been bought for each mentor and will be offered for free. If you will not be able or interested to attend those events, please let us know as soon as possible.

TOTAL YEARLY COMPENSATION:

$3,000 for one student and $150 for each additional student

Compensation paid at the conclusion of each required mentor task.
