Adult Dance Classes

Our adult dance class selections at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre are carefully crafted to offer both basic skills for those new to dance and advanced skills for experienced artists looking to hone their craft. Our instructors have worked professionally and on college campuses both in West Michigan and all over the country.
Dance Placement Videos
If you are unsure which level dance class would be appropriate for you, please check out our placement videos created by the wonderful Civic dance faculty. They showcase what students should feel comfortable working on at an intermediate level. Please keep in mind that instructors may ask students to move to an alternate class after the first week depending on the level of students registered during the term.
Spring Term
Beginning Tap
Saturdays, 9:30-10:30am | $80 | View in Calendar »
For dancers with little or no tap experience. Students learn tap basics such as a brush, ball change, flap, and shuffle! Tap shoes recommended.

Intermediate Tap
Saturdays, 10:30-11:30am | $80 | View in Calendar »
For dancers with at least 2 years tap experience. Students will work on steps such as a Maxi Ford, paddle turns, Shim Sham, timesteps, and turning steps. Tap shoes required.
Advanced Tap
Saturdays, 11:30am-12:30pm | $80 | View in Calendar »
For dancers with at least 4-5 years tap experience or instructor approval. Students will work on improvisational tap, trick steps, paradiddle variations, and more! Tap shoes required.
Ballet for Musical Theater Performers
Saturdays, 1:00-2:30pm | $95 | View in Calendar »
This class is intended for musical theatre performers who are looking to build their foundational dance skills. Students will leave with the tools and vocabulary to pick up choreography in a musical theatre setting at a faster pace while strengthening their technique! Ballet shoes recommended.
Famous Tap Choreography
Thursdays, 7:00-8:00pm | $80 | View in Calendar »
Learn famous tap choreography from Broadway shows and popular movie musicals, like Anything Goes, 42nd Street, and Singin’ in the Rain. This class is intended for Intermediate and Advanced tappers!
