Welcome back!  While the Covid situation is still very fluid, Civic Theatre has been working with the Health Department to solidify a plan for IN PERSON classes (and a few virtual classes too!) for the Winter 2021 Term.  The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our TOP priority and we encourage you to look at our COVID policies/procedures as you think about what classes you want to take in the new year!  We’ve missed you and can’t wait to see you at the theatre soon!

Class Information

Kidsplay Combo is an introduction to all of the elements of theatre for our youngest artists!  The class includes basic theatre instruction & games, storytelling, music & dance….and a lot of giggles!  The class concludes with a short performance that is recorded and uploaded to a private, secure link that can be shared with family and friends for a limited time.  We request that parents attend camp zoom time with their student to assist with technology.

Class Information

The perfect class for young actors who love to tell stories, play games and PERFORM!  Beginning Actors will cover the basics of theatre using games & activities, music & dance and is a great introduction to our CORE Curriculum that begins in 2nd grade.  The class concludes with a short performance that is recorded and uploaded to a private, secure link that can be shared with family and friends for a limited time.

Young PLAYwrights Workshop – ONLINE CLASS

Class Information

This classes uses fun improvisational exercises and games to explore character & storytelling. The instructor will then guide students as they learn how to turn their play into play WRITING! Each student will develop a 5-10 minute play, collaborating and exploring with their classmates. All students will have the opportunity to share a portion of their script as part of the final “Informance” on the last day of class.

Dragons Love Dance Parties – IN PERSON CLASS

Class Information

You might have learned that Dragons Love Tacos from Adam Rubin’s beloved story. But did you know that Dragons also love DANCE PARTIES?! In this class, students will create dragon characters, make dragon costumes, and learn a dragon dance number that will be included in GRCT’s Spring production of DRAGONS LOVE TACOS on our Mainstage! The students’ final performance from this class will be filmed and incorporated into the spring production, and all students will receive 2 free tickets to the show so that they can see their work in action.

Sketch Comedy –

Class Information

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, and Jimmy Fallon all got their start in comedy by learning how to do Sketch Comedy!  Guided by an experienced sketch comedy instructor, students learn the process of sketch writing from brainstorming through presentation!  Laughter guaranteed!

Tuition Policy:

Due to Covid-19, classes initially planned to be in person may be converted to online at any point in the term at the discretion of Grand Rapids Civic Theatre staff and board.  Class dates and times will remain the same and students will be given a Zoom link for the class.  No refunds or credits will be offered if a class moves from in person to online format.
