Stepping on stage as a shy and quiet teenager, Michael could not have anticipated the effects his role in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe would have in his life. Now, four years later, Michael credits his theatre experience for the leadership, communication and teamwork skills he uses on a daily basis in his work as a Patient Care Provider at Saint Mary’s.

“I see the impact of Civic in Michael’s life years after he participated,” said his proud mother, Amy. “Theatre taught him to not be afraid of new experiences and to find common ground with others – he carries these lessons with him in college and his nursing career.”

Without Civic donors, this transformation from shy teenager to confident leader would not have been possible. As President of Aquinas College’s Student Nursing Association and a Patient Care Provider at Saint Mary’s, Michael credits his theatre experience for the leadership, communication and teamwork skills he uses on a daily basis.

“Being part of a theatre production taught me responsibility, commitment and the importance of seeing a task through to the end no matter what. Theatre made me a better nurse, and I use the lessons learned at Civic every day with my patients,” said Michael. “I’m able to communicate confidently and think on my feet. I’m a better team member with my fellow nurses, which is imperative to efficient and effective patient care.”
