A story for the ages, a stage for the future.
“100 Years. 100 Seasons. 100 Years of plays, musicals, actors, designers, production teams, volunteers, students, teachers, artists, patrons, friends, families. 100 years of stages and stories- some that only exist in fading photographs and imperishable memories, some that seem to transcend time and take on a life of their own. 100 years of celebrating the human spirit, of showing community coming together to overcome challenges and tragedy, of using fiction to illuminate truth about the human condition. 100 years of art reflecting life and life reflecting art while both life and art are celebrated here on the Civic stage and in this building where the Civic family comes together in joy, and in sorrow as the years go by and the family grows and evolves and reflects the world outside our doors, and expands far beyond our little slice of West Michigan…”
– Allyson Paris, Interim Artistic Director at the Season 100 Announcement Watch Party on March 1, 2026

Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

Grand Rapids Civic Theatre will close its Centennial Season with an epic tale of passion and redemption in the throes of revolution. Les Misérables is one of the world’s longest running musicals — a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo’s novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time. Set in 19th Century France, this modern classic is as groundbreaking today as it was when it first premiered in London in 1985.
“This show isn’t about individuals, or even the ensemble, so much as about how actors and music and staging meld with each other and with the soul of its source… the company need simply march forward to summon up Hugo’s unflagging faith in tomorrow’s better world.” – New York Times
