The award winning, Grand Rapids Civic Theatre School of Theatre Arts offers the most comprehensive community theatre education program in the country.
Classes and Day Camps
The School of Theatre Arts offers a variety of acting, musical theatre, improv, and voice classes for ages 4 through adult. Classes occur as 3,5,8, or 10 week sessions and are offered in the fall, winter and spring. All classes are lead by experienced theatre professionals. The School also provides special workshops and mini-classes on select topics throughout the year. See the Course Guide for registration details and to select which class is right for you.
Summer Theatre Arts Day Camps
These week long day camps are the perfect way to keep your child’s creativity active while making new friends and learning important life-skills. All Summer Theatre Day Camps are staffed by experienced theatre professionals. During the week, your child will experience many aspects of theatre and at the end of the week, perform in a play on the beautiful Meijer Majestic Stage, for you and your family. Tuition includes a commemorative camp T-shirt.
Programming and Outreach
Summer Repertory Theatre Program
Summer Repertory Theatre (SRT) is designed for students ages 14-19, and is the equivalent of a master’s level program. Professional Theatre staff guide and instruct students from audition through final performance. The program emphasizes the spectrum of theatre-related skills, from acting, to set and costume design, back-stage production, publicity, and more. Students are selected for the program by audition and are cast in one of the two shows scheduled. When not on stage, the student serves as crew for the other show. The Summer Repertory Theatre productions are a part of the Theatres play line-up each season. Visit (insert calendar) for audition the schedule.
School Closing Policy
In the event that a closing must occur, students will be notified through the email given at registration and notice will be displayed both onscreen and online at WOOD-TV8 and WZZM-13.
In the event that a class is cancelled, every effort will be made to schedule a make-up class, according to instructor and space availability.

Refund and Cancellation Policy
In the event that the Theatre must cancel a course, a full refund will be issued.
If a student requests a withdrawal, on or before the first day of class, a full refund less $10 cancellation fee will be issued. Withdrawals before the second day of class are refunded at 75% of the enrollment cost. Refund is forfeited if withdraw occurs on the second day of class or later.
Exceptions include Performance Classes: No refunds are issued after the final registration date. Summer Day Camps, no refunds are issued after the start date of camp.
