MARY KATE MURNEN

Musical Theatre, Voice
Mary Kate Murnen is thrilled to be a Teaching Artist at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre! A graduate of Grand Valley State University, she studied Communications and Theater with a focus on Music, Film, and Video, blending her love of storytelling, performance, and creative collaboration. By day, she serves as the Director of Communications and Development for Girls Choral Academy, where she gets to champion the incredible voices and stories of young singers throughout West Michigan.
When she’s not in the classroom, you’ll probably find Mary Kate onstage or behind the scenes at a local theater. Some of her favorite roles include Elsa in Frozen, Grizabella in Cats, Kira in Xanadu, and Hildy in On the Town. She has also enjoyed mentoring fellow performers, leading her collegiate a cappella group, and serving as Assistant Director for Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s Rock of Ages.
Mary Kate believes theater should be a place where everyone feels empowered to take creative risks, cheer each other on, and have a whole lot of fun along the way. She can’t wait to help students grow their confidence, discover new skills, and maybe even fall a little more in love with the magic of the stage!
