Musical Theatre Teacher
Chelsea Herrema is glad to be back for her fifth year of teaching at Civic where she is grateful to have to the opportunity to connect with the next generation of performers and to collaborate with a pool of wildly talented theatre professionals. Herrema is a classically trained soubrette and legit musical theatre soprano. Her favorite stage roles include: Clara Johnson in The Light in the Piazza, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Emily Webb in Our Town, Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, Claire De Loone in On the Town, and Glinda in The Wizard of Oz. In addition to performing, Herrema has worked theatre production as a Music Director, Vocal Director, Director, Assistant Director, and Properties Designer. Herrema graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Hope College. She teaches a variety of ages as a private voice teacher and audition coach, and teaches drama and music at local schools. She is a member of Opera Grand Rapids Chorus and studies privately with Nicholas Loren.
