PERFORMANCE BLOCK 2021

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be in a Civic Mainstage production?  Now you can find out!  Our Performance Block classes for grades 2 through 12 mimic the experience of a Civic Mainstage process – from audition to performance – in a condensed block of time!  A professional staff of directors, stage managers, music director, choreographer, designers and technicians will take students through the entire process, culminating in a performance on Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s Meijer Majestic Stage.

Performance Block Pre-requisites

Performance Block classes are intended to be an opportunity for active GRCT students to apply the skills they’ve been learning in classes and camps to their work as a performer.  In order to ensure students are prepared for the rigor of the program, we require certain pre-requisites in order for a student to participate in Performance Block productions.  Due to Covid-19, the pre-requisites have been relaxed for this year ONLY.  Students who have taken either a class or summer camp during 2019/20 or 2020/21 are eligible, but are still subject to our attendance policy.

We do NOT make exceptions to these pre-requisites.

COVID-19 Impact

**We will be following the same COVID procedures we’ve been using for Winter classes, including reduced class sizes, wellness checks, masks and social distancing.

**The Performance Block shows were chosen because streaming rights ARE available.  So, if we find ourselves in a COVID-related shut-down, the show WILL go on, one way or another!

**Because we are limiting the number of students in each production, the students who were registered in last year’s Performance Block (which was cancelled mid-rehearsal) will be able to enroll before enrollment opens up to the rest of our students.

**There will not be a Performance Block showcase, featuring all 4 shows at the same time, as in the past.  Each show will have their own performance so that we can accommodate more family and friends (subject to the State of Michigan gathering rules) and each cast member will be provided a high quality DVD of their show as a keepsake.
