Growing up, I did every artistic thing my parents could afford (and could drive me to!): Piano, Cello, Choir, Dance Class, Theatre, Speech Team – I loved it all! I went to college at Bradley University to study Theatre (among other things), and then went to the University of Hawaii for my Master’s Degree – and yes, I did (sort of) learn to surf while I was there! I stayed in Hawaii for a few years after getting my first full time arts administration position at Hawaii Opera Theatre.

Since then, I’ve lived in 5 different states, and in each of those places, I always found some kind of job in theatre – directing, music directing, teaching, administration, performing. I’ve worked for Symphonies, Opera Companies, Schools, Colleges, and definitely a lot of Theatre Companies!

When I moved back to Michigan in 2013, I found Civic right away, and started teaching and volunteering. Within the first few months of being here, I knew I had found “home”. It’s a special place, and one of my favorite parts about it is watching young people become young ARTISTS. There’s something really magical that happens when a person (of any age) first realizes that theatre fills something in their heart that sometimes they didn’t even know they were missing. That is the thing that keeps me coming back to Civic day after day and year after year! I hope everyone who comes here finds that something special, too!

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,1_3,1_3″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

What inspires you?

Our Young Artists at Civic!
