Why Your Support Makes A Difference
When you make a donation to the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and School
of Theatre Arts, you are certainly responsible for helping to bridge the
gap between our ticket sales and our actual costs of putting on a show -
royalties, lumber, lighting, sound - everything that creates the magic
you see on our stage. You also help us to operate our historic facility
that is such an important part of downtown Grand Rapids. In fact, you
literally help us keep the lights on! You also help us do so much more...
Building community one performance at a time
Making a performance come alive brings a diverse group of people
together, from the professional staff of the Civic Theatre to the more
than 800 volunteers who offer their time and talents each year. From
pounding nails to operating the sound-board to singing in the
footlights, the Civic Theatre simply would not exist without the
dedicated individuals who are your neighbors, colleagues, friends and
family.
Educating the next generation of performers...and patrons!
The Civic Theatre's imprint on the community goes deeper than the
productions you see each season. Every year, more than 1,800 students
from age four to adult participate in the School of Theatre Arts, which
offers programs that are nationally recognized as a quality educational
experience. Gaining skills from voice to dance to acting to stage
managing, students learn about the process of the performing arts, while
at the same time learning about themselves. The School also provides
need-based scholarships in order to open this opportunity to as many
people as possible.
Reaching out to children with the power and magic of the performing arts
For many people, performing arts have been a part of their lives for
as long as they can remember. They may have had a relative or friend
take their hand and lead them into the theatre for the first time when
they were just able to toddle to their seats, letting the enchantment of
the stage enfold them. Other children are not so fortunate. Perhaps
due to financial constraints or to family situations that do not allow
participation in the arts, many children do not have the opportunity to
experience an art form that could enrich the rest of their lives - as
well as the life of their communities - through their future
involvement. In just the last five years alone, Civic Theatre's
outreach programs like Traveling Troupe and Children's Matinees have
brought the thrill of theatre into the lives of nearly 75,000 children
throughout West Michigan.
The experiences we offer may be priceless, but providing them comes
at a cost. Please help us continue our important work in West Michigan,
by making a donation TODAY!
